2023 Harvest Report

Soft Orchard Grass: 2023 Harvest Report

The 2023 Ultra Premium Soft Orchard Grass we have in stock is currently a second cut. This was harvested shortly after our first cut of Orchard Grass that happened in June. Our 2023 Soft Orchard Grass contains long blue green leaves - a great Soft Orchard!

Here is the report on what we have in stock:

Overall Rating: 8/10
Harvest: Second cut of Orchard Grass with a slight amount of Alfalfa in it. This is a normal occurrence.
Location: Northern California.
Color: Blue Green.
Stems/Stalks: Minimal to none.
Leaves: Mostly made up of long, full leaves.
Seed Heads/Flowers: None.
Leaf Crush: Minimal.
Weeds: We noticed a little bit of Alfalfa in this, this is normal for Orchard Grass as it is typical for our farmer to transition an Alfalfa field over to Orchard and provide an Orchard/Alfalfa blend, we always request the fields that were transitioned a long time ago and have as little Alfalfa in them as possible.
Brown Leaf: Little to none.
Dust: None.

Initial Analysis Summary: This year's Soft Orchard Grass is a great example of what Soft Orchard Grass should be. It has a nice full leaf structure with almost no leaf crush. The only reason that it does not get a 10/10 is because of the small amount of Alfalfa that was found.

Important to Know About Harvest Reports

Our Harvest Reports update yearly, and are a first glance and analysis of the newly harvested hay. This is what we are hoping (and anticipating) the rest of the year's hay will look like. Yet, nature's quirks make hay-growing and harvesting unique and can lead to a bit of unpredictability with every new batch of hay we receive. As new hay batches from this harvest comes in, typically every 4 to 6 weeks, we'll update you on any changes through our Fresh From The Hopper.
